Bios Flash Update
=================
This BIOS Flash Update SoftPaq contains utilities that can be used to
restore or upgrade the system BIOS on Hewlett-Packard workstations.

**Be advised that some archive/compression programs may misinterpret the
  binary files in this Softpaq as a text file and attempt to translate
  line termination characters. This will corrupt the binary file and
  prevent the BIOS update from starting. No corruption of the BIOS stored
  in the flash ROM will occur, but be sure to disable any archive program
  options like TAR file smart CR/LF conversion before extracting the
  contents of this Softpaq.

Directories
===========
DOS_Flash - DOS utility that can be used locally or with a Preboot
eXecution Environment (PXE) management application to update or restore
the system BIOS.

BIOS_CD - Creates a CD containing the BIOS binary image that can be used
to locally restore or upgrade the system BIOS through F10 setup or
BootBlock Emergency Recovery Mode.

Instructions to flash from removable media
==========================================
  1. Copy xxx_MMmm.bin from DOS_Flash to your removable media.
	i.e. usb or CD-rom
  2. Reboot system and follow instructions from
	F10 Setup BIOS Flashing below

F10 Setup BIOS Flashing
=======================
The HP Workstation system supported by this softpaq provides a BIOS upgrade
option through F10 setup using the "Flash System ROM" feature. Reboot the
PC and press F10 to enter setup. In the File menu, select the "Flash
System ROM" item. This flash utility will present the user with the option
to select the media containing the BIOS image file (XXX_MMmm.bin). The
binary image file is contained in the DOS Flash directory and is named
XXX_MMmm.bin where "XXX" is the abbreviated BIOS family, "MM" is the major
version number, and "mm" is the minor version number.

F10 ROM based flash can accept the binary file from the root directory of
any removable media such as USB or CD. The
BIOS_CD Media file, included in this softpaq, should be used to create a
BIOS image CD. When flashing with F10 ROM based flash, the CD media must
be El-Torito compatible. The user is prompted when the process is
completed. The new BIOS code will not take effect until the PC is
rebooted.

    1. Boot to F10 Setup Utility. The SATA Emulation option must be set to IDE.

       	Storage->SATA Emulation->IDE
 	Save IDE setting
        F10=Accept from the Storage Options window

	Save Changes and Exit
	File->Save Changes and Exit->F10=Yes
	This resets the system

    2. Enter F10 Setup utility. Select Flash System ROM from the file menu.

	File->Flash System ROM

	Select CD-ROM from the Flash System ROM window

    3. Follow the on-screen instructions to select the System BIOS and update
       the firmware.

    4. Enter F10 Setup utility. Set SATA Emulation option back to RAID+AHCI.

        Storage->SATA Emulation->RAID+AHCI
	Save RAID+AHCI setting
        F10=Accept from the Storage Options window

BIOS CD Media
=============
This image creates a CD with the BIOS binary that can be used to locally
restore or upgrade the system BIOS through F10 setup or BootBlock Emergency
Recovery Mode. This feature requires that a system is available with CD
burning software, such as 'cdrecord' and a compatible CD-R\RW drive
installed. This CD image is not a self-contained flash utility. It is
simply a binary image of the BIOS that can be used by various flashing
algorithms.
	i.e.
	'cdrecord -v -eject speed=16 dev=2,0,0 xxx_MMmm.iso'
		where dev= is the device address for the CD Rom burner
		that comes from 'cdrecord --scanbus'.
