The route of a day six is very simple today. Get to the top of the mountains/hills which lead all the way north to drop me down in Ubrique. The whole journey to Ubruqie is 37km, which is out of my abilities, so I will just walk as far as I can and then sleep somewhere along the way Link to map

The ascent took longer then expected, the path is not as well marked as the previous days, but once I am on the top there is a mirador with a nice vista over the wide valley I crossed two days ago.

And there at the distance, at the foot of the range which closes the valley on opposiste side, the white walls of Casares are just about distinguishable.

This western part feels different, not so steep, dryer, full of huge boulders. Shrubs, and pine trees are in mamjority here. The road atop the range is a solid 4WD track and seems to be a bit tedious.

Then it drops down to the natural park of Acornales. Here it becomes a narrow footpath which dives into dense vegetation of corck oaks supplemented by thorny bushes. Dry leaves rustle under my feet, and the character of the path changes from place to place. Sometimes its really dark, wet, and enclosed with jungle of shrubs and bushes, especially when crossing ine of many different streams.

Then it climbs up to a much drier spot, where sun paints patches of light on the fallen leaves between the big oak trees. In places, flat boulder overseeing a portion of riverbed invites to sit on its colourfull patchwork of lichen and moss. In general, the clours are subdued, but from time to time, the vivid red of the raspberry tree fruits (and some other berry) flashes among the leaves on the ground. Some bushes are in full white dress on the hillside, and the stream I am crossing collects hundreds of its tiny cute bell flowers behind a boulder.
As I am thinking its a great place for hermits I come across a little Maria shrine located in a small cave in the rock. Incredible. Eventually, the path emerges up onto a 4WD road among the corck oaks. They themselves are really nice, but I am deeply grateful they decided to keep some parts as a natural park.

The road offers great views to the left side of the Parque Acornales hills, seemingly without an end, illuminated by the lowering sun. Then the path gets into shallow saddle and on the right new view opens. Vast grey and green limestone mountain appears among the fast passing clouds. Now I can feel the landscape is changing and the descent into Ubrique shall start soon. But before that I meet a local shouting into the forest.

Did you see my cows?

No I did not, how many you have?

Forty

Thats a lot of cows

Yes, have a good journey

Thanks, Bye

In about an hour find a nice camping spot tucked behind an elevated bank of road, with great view of the valley and amazing sunset show. In the night some noises wake me up, so I make some noises too in hope to scare the presumed wild boars. Then I look out on the road and majestic silhoutte of a cow slowly crosses the horizon. Vacas are surely enjoying the freedom too.
